a place of gathering to celebrate Europe's culture and heritage
and strengthen democracy conversation

Classic Danish weather brought people together on the last day of Political Festival of Europe

After some 300 events, over 200 speakers and more than 30 represented countries of Europe, Political Festival of Europe rounds off four enriching days with between 18 000 and 20 000 guests. On its last day, classic Danish weather gathered people and filled the indoors for the final debates and closing ceremony.

From an idea that was presented to the Mariagerfjord municipality two years ago, Political Festival of Europe finally took place for the very first time from 25 to 28 August 2022 in the historic town of Mariager.

After three days of good and warm weather, classic Danish weather – rain and heavy clouds – welcomed the crowd on Sunday 28 August, the very last day of the Festival. Despite the weather, 1 000 people attended the morning mass at the Church and seats at the debates with Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark H.E. Mykhailo Vydoinyk, among others, were filled.

To close off the Festival, Ambassador of Ukraine to Denmark H.E. Mykhailo Vydoinyk, EU Commissioner Elisa Ferreira, Chairman of The North Denmark Region Mads Duedahl, and CEO for Political Festival of Europe Jan Bertelsen all highlighted the values of peace, democracy and togetherness in their final words for the citizens of Europe, volunteers and the local community.

Alone, we are not able to achieve much, but together it is possible to achieve a lot,

highlighted Mads Duedahl in his speech. Tweet
Partnerships made it possible

Sponsorships and partnerships have been key in making Political Festival of Europe a reality – the Secretariat is therefore extremely grateful for its main sponsors: Mariagerfjord municipality, Eurowind Energy, Spar Nord, the North Denmark Region and the European Movement Denmark; funding from: the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, LAG, the ELRO Fund, the Jutlandic Art Fund and the Sparekassen Denmark Hobro Fund; as well as the many Democracy Partners, PFoE Partners and Mariager Partners.

In its first year, the Festival was able to attract between 18 000 and 20 000 guests from all over Europe with a programme of some 300 events, including debates, concerts, street performances, cooking shows and much more! More than 200 speakers from over 30 countries joined the debate programme while 56 partners contributed to the Festival with their own activity tents and debates.

I am overjoyed by how the Festival turned out. We thank the sponsors, partners, volunteers, staff and locals for their unwavering support throughout the past year. Together, we have been able to take on a visionary ambition and make it happen. The experiences, talks and meetings that I, and everyone, have been able to have during the past four days have filled me with me greater joy and hope for a stronger democracy,

For any good ideas and feedback for next year’s Festival, guests can fill out the 2022 feedback form – because it is also your Festival! See you next year!

Political Festival of Europe is a central platform for European debates and took place for the first time from 25 to 28 August 2022 in Mariager. A wide range of debates between European citizens and decision-makers on some of the most pressing issues were organised at the Festival. In addition to the many political events, the Festival is also be a place where visitors can experience music, culture, and food from all over Europe. Our strength in Europe lies in our diversity, but we need a place where we can come together and discuss the future of Europe – that’s why we have created the Political Festival of Europe.

Klassisk dansk vejr bragte folk sammen pĂĄ den sidste dag pĂĄ Political Festival of Europe

Tweet
