From Greenlandic music to Balkan beats – Political Festival of Europe announces its music line-up headlining Emmelie de Forest

In less than two weeks, Mariager will become home to a four-day festival with politics, music and culture from all over Europe. Its line-up of 22 concerts with music from all corners of the continent will be headlined by local Eurovision winner of 2013: Emmelie de Forest.

Greenlandic music, Eastern European Jewish folk songs and Balkan beats will soon fill the streets of Mariager. Political Festival of Europe will launch for the first time from 25 to 28 August and announces its music line-up headlined by Emmelie de Forest, winner of the 2013 Eurovision song contest. 22 artists and bands will perform live music acts on both the Performance Stage and the Europe Stage. Additional musical performances will also be organised by the Festival’s many partners – including jazz concerts in the monastery’s garden, marching band performances through the town and choir performances at the library. Admission to the Festival is free of charge.

Showcasing European diversity through music

Celebrating the diverse and rich cultures of Europe is a core part of Political Festival of Europe. Music and artist performances will therefore take place every day across the streets of Mariager, with at least three concerts on the Europe and Performance Stages each day.

The music programme will kick off with a concert by Rasmus Lyberth and Jane Clark on Thursday 25 August at 18:00 on the Europe Stage. With his self-composed music and his enchanting voice, Rasmus sings about Greenland’s many facets in a way that transcends language barriers and moves audiences. Ramus will be accompanied by English violinist Jane Clark, known from the duo Jane & Shane and for touring with Niels Hausgaard and Allan Olsen.

Other performing artists and bands include Channe Nussbaum & Klezmofobia, Ole Frimer Band, Mizgin Band, Bjonko & Balkan Beat Band, The Courettes and many more! The full music and culture programme can be explored at www.pfoe.org/music-and-culture/.

Emmelie de Forest returns to her hometown

After winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, Emmelie de Forest became an internationally renowned singer-songwriter. The same year, she also was named European of The Year by the European Movement in Denmark. Returning to her birthplace to celebrate European culture with thousands of Europeans, Emmelie de Forest will perform on the Europea Stage on Saturday, 27 August 2022 at 14.00. The concert is sponsored by Sparekassen Danmark.
